Colourful ties 'a 2011 trend'

The end of a year is a great opportunity to look back on key defining moments from the past 12 months -and a number of global publications are jumping the gun when it comes to summing up 2011 in men's style.

This year, according to Guardian writer Simon Chilvers, was defined by bright, eye-catching colours and chinos as an alternative to jeans.

Colour blocking, particularly when it comes to men's ties, was a trend that summed up much of British political life during the past 12 months - Chilvers highlighted a photograph of UK prime minister David Cameron sporting a purple tie as an example.

Here in Sydney, we've seen a resurgence of nautical apparel in recent months - particularly as the weather begins to warm up - with navy blue and red proving particularly popular in the run-up to summer.

If you are planning to make a strong statement in 2012 with your wardrobe, shopping for unique ties online is an option well worth considering.

You can even arrange to order custom ties, which could be a great way to show your support for a favourite sports team or express your loyalty by wearing the company colours.
