Classic ties on display at 2012 Baftas in London

Some classic menswear was on display at the 2012 Bafta Awards last weekend (February 12), with a host of stars from the world of film turning up in outfits that would have dazzled in any decade between the Roaring 1920s and the present day.

It was a relative who's who of fashionable big screen stars - there to celebrate the best of British film over the past 12 months - including Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Colin Firth and Daniel Radcliffe.

Clooney wore a timeless black overcoat, crisp white shirt and black tailored tie, looking every bit the 'world's sexiest man' he is often claimed to be.

Pitt, Firth and Radcliffe might easily have done their pre-event shopping together, as walked the red carpet in near-identical suits with sophisticated black bowties. Firth and Radcliffe even added a white pocket square for an extra touch of class.

Jonah Hill mixed things up with a dark grey suit and a silver tie that made great impression, while Tom Jones kept the look simple with a solid knotted black tie that oozed class.

This did not appear to be a night for bold colours, novelty items or major sartorial risks, with an awards night celebrity fashion faux pas almost impossible to spot.
