How to wear a scarf?

Eternally fashionable, scarves are the most versatile accessory for women. A beautiful silk scarf can add chic sophistication to your business attire. Whichever scarf you choose, there are many ways to tie a scarf. Play around and find the look that best suits your style.

European Loop

  • Fold a long, rectangular scarf like an accordion, or fold it in half lengthwise several times until it is the desired width.
  • Fold your rectangle in half, ends to ends, creating a loop.
  • Place this folded rectangle behind your neck and bring the looped end and the loose ends to the front.
  • Take the two loose ends and pull them through the loop.
  • Pull the ends until the scarf fits snugly around your neck.

Brooch Knot

  • Fold a long scarf like an accordion. If it’s very long, fold it in half to shorten it first.
  • Wrap it around your neck and secure it on one side with a brooch or pin.
  • Fan out the accordion folds.
This works well with a small square scarf as well.

Slip Knot

  • Fold a long scarf in half lengthwise until desired width is achieved.
  • Place around your neck with the ends in front, one end shorter than the other.
  • Wrap the long end once around the short end and then pull the long end through the top of the loop.
  • Adjust the tie to the desired height.
This look can also be made with a square scarf folded on the bias.

Casual Knot

  • Fold a long, rectangular scarf like an accordion.
  • Drape it around your neck and tie a simple knot at the side. Both ends can be in front, or you can flip one end to the back.

Butterfly knot

  • Fold a long, rectangular scarf like an accordion.
  • Drape it around your neck and tie a simple knot at the side. Both ends can be in front, or you can flip one end to the back.

Ascot Knot

  • Fold a long, rectangular scarf like an accordion.
  • Place it around your neck, ends facing the back.
  • Bring the ends to the front, and loop one over the other, fluffing out the one on top.
  • This can be tucked into a blouse for a more business-like look.

Neck Wrap

  • Fold a square scarf into a triangle.
  • Tie the two ends of the triangle together at the back of your neck.
  • Muss the scarf to make it full and not so folded.
