Health Issues Related To Neckties

The debate of wearing neckties has the focal point on the issues of conformity, expectation and expression. Frank Lloyd Wright one of the great architects once announced that great architecture “form follows function’.

When the ties applied to fashion, their function as decorative apparel was criticized by this same principle. Arizona State University has passed a resolution of not discriminating on the basis of gender in the cases of the wearing of ties. This includes cross-gender choices also. But as for the time needed for these changes to occur, for the in-between time they produced one rule also based on this policy. The rule states all the men in Office of the President to wear proper ties as well as women to wear hose and heels for any ambassador visits or for any official meetings.

Even some men were fired from their employment by not confirming these rules of wearing proper ties. In the case of women even the employers of the modern society want the women to wear the same dress code as that of men, not to show any difference between employees.

The opposite group for necktie wearing states many risks to build support for their group. Some of the major risks they state are entanglement, infection and vascular constriction.

Of all this the main risk of entanglement happens to people who work around machineries or in situations like where there is a chance for small quarrels may occur. For an example in the situations like police and prison personnel and also in some specific medical fields.

It is advisable to wear clip-on varieties instead of ties to avoid risk in these situations. The clip-on type can be easily detached if some one grabbed it.

The risk of wearing ties in medical field occurs when doctors who wear tie will lean on the patients for health checkups, so the neckties come in contact with the patients. As the cleaning of necktie is lesser when compared to other apparels, the neckties will remain with the bacteria till cleaning. So to avoid bacterial infection doctors started wearing bow rather than neckties.

The third risk also occurs in the same medical field but in different angle, like vascular constriction. It happens when the ties are worn with tight neck collars. Studies in these cases shows an increase in intra-ocular pressure that can worse the patient’s condition if they already affected by weakened retinas. Also patients with glaucoma should handle in special care. To avoid all these risks we need some awareness only.

When you call paramedics for urgent help in the case of unconscious or some difficulty in breathing they first remove the ties from the victim’s neck collar to free the air way for an easy breath.
