Show your colours in plaid this year
The beginning of a new year is a great time to take some fashion risks - and if you are keen to show off a new style as we welcome 2012, plaid may be a pattern well worth considering.
Steve Dinneen of London publication City AM asserts that plaid has been making a comeback in recent years, pointing to the recent "adventurous" looks showcased on the London catwalks.
If you are a plaid fan, he suggests that you can even be so bold as to mix and match two checked patterns and wear them together - as long as the colours are complementary.
But if you prefer to make a more subtle statement when it comes to plaid, why not test-drive the look with a new executive tie?
Accessories in on-trend colours or patterns can be a great way to give a nod to plaid without a full head-to-toe commitment.
You might want to keep the rest of your outfit simple - try straight-leg or tapered trousers, a shirt in a pastel colour and a plaid tie for an unexpected pop.
With the right planning and accessories, you'll be right on trend.
